If Obama can't get your guns, he can go after the place where you learn to shoot them:

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued a citation, along with a proposed fine of $111,000 fine (OSHA press release here), against Illinois Gun Works–a gun store and gunsmith business which has a shooting range and teaches safety classes. HT Instapundit and David Codrea. In a November 2009 article for the NRA magazine America’s 1st Freedom, I warned about the dangers of President Obama’s nomination of David Michaels as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health (head of OSHA), based on Michaels’ well-established record as an anti-gun advocate.

Many of alleged OSHA violations at the safety training range involved noise exposure for the instructors. Among OSHA’s suggestions were to eliminate training in “larger caliber” handguns such as “9 mm Luger and/or .45 Colt” and substitute “handguns of smaller caliber,” such as .22LR. And “Prohibition of any shotguns and/or rifles firing in the firing range.” (p. 6). In other words, eliminate training for all firearms except those which are least likely to have the stopping power to be effective for self-defense. And ensure that the range can never provide students with personal instruction in the use of the firearms which constitute the vast majority of firearms which people actually own.

When Seconds Count Cops Are Usually Minutes Away

So this 14-year old took matters into his own hands and possibly saved himself and his siblings:

A 14-year-old boy shot an intruder at a Laveen home near 55th and Minton avenues Friday afternoon, police said.

The boy was home with his three siblings, ranging in ages from 8 years old to 12 years old, when he saw a woman they did not recognize at the front of the house around 4:30 p.m. She began pounding on the door, said James Holmes, a Phoenix police spokesman.

The boy went upstairs and got a handgun, police said. A man with a rifle had forced his way into the home. He aimed the gun at the boy, and the boy shot him, police said.

The boy and his three siblings left the house and went to a neighbor's house, where the boy called police and his father, Holmes said.

"He took an action that no police officer, certainly no one in our community, wants a 14-year-old to have to take," Holmes said. "And yet he's safe, his siblings are safe, and so now we have to figure out why this happened and why these people were there."

He was obviously well prepared for the situation. Good job.

Mexicans Didn't Realize That Obama Considers Killing People Part of His Job

They apparently underestimated his incompetence as well:

Mexico’s ambassador to the United States detailed last week how the administration of President Barack Obama left his government in the dark while arming violent drug cartel criminals through Operation Fast and Furious.

Last Thursday, Mexican ambassador to the U.S. Arturo Sarukhan told a forum on Capitol Hill that the Obama administration’s handling of the operation demonstrated an “outstanding lack of understanding of how criminal organizations are operating on both sides of our common borders.”

The operation led to the killing of hundreds of Sarukhan’s fellow citizens and two American law enforcement agents: Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata. The identities of the countless Mexican victims are unknown.

“Mexico was never apprised how the operation would be designed and implemented,” Sarukhan said on Thursday at a left-wing event hosted by the New Democrat Network and the New Policy Institute.

“Regardless of whether this was or was not the intent or the design of Fast and Furious, the thinking that you can let guns walk across the border and maintain operational control of those weapons is really an outstanding lack of understanding of how these criminal organizations are operating on both sides of our common borders,” Sarukhan said, adding that he thinks the Obama administration had significantly damaged its popularity in Mexico.

The revelation that Mexico was kept in the dark as the Obama administration pumped thousands of weapons into the hands of criminals in its country – criminals who then used the weapons to kill people – comes after news broke that President Barack Obama thinks it’s part of his job as president to kill people, as detailed in a soon-to-be-released book by Newsweek investigative reporter Daniel Klaidman.

I think the Mexicans should recall all of their citizens from the U.S. in protest.

Gun Show

Gonna celebrate some quality 2nd Amendment time by going to the Gun Show at the Orange County Fairgrounds this afternoon. Lots of cool stuff on display (my wife prefers the jewelry, but my son and I will be looking at guns). Gotta enjoy this stuff before the pantywaists and wimps make them all illegal.

Never Bring Pepper Spray to a Gunfight

Lesson learned:

A homeowner fended off an intruder who broke into his home and blasted the resident with pepper spray by retrieving his handgun and firing several shots at the intruder, police said Wednesday.

The intruder was not struck.

The incident happened at around 2:41 a.m. Monday in a home in the 2400 block of Elden Street, Costa Mesa police Lt. Tim Schennum said in a news release.

The homeowner was awakened by a noise and found the intruder in his bedroom, the release said.

The person was last seen running eastbound down the driveway of the home.

The intruder apparently fled the home without taking any valuables, police said.

Too bad the perp got away. These stories are always a lot more entertaining when there's a line about notifying the perp's next of kin.

Obama is still stimulating one part of the economy:

Gun sales are booming as buyers arm themselves, partly because they fear President Obama will win re-election this fall and pass tough new gun-control laws, analysts say.

“I would characterize this as a gun-buying frenzy,” Jim Barrett of CL King & Associates said yesterday after Springfield-based Smith & Wesson’s reported blowout quarterly sales.

Smith & Wesson said preliminary net sales from continuing operations rose 28 percent to $129 million during the latest quarter. The gun maker also reported a $439 million backlog of orders — a $252 million increase from a year earlier.

Weapons manufacturers across the industry are logging similar numbers.

Thanks, Mr. President. Just think how happy all those gun owners will be when they realize you've been defeated and they can keep their guns without fear.

This guy has a winning lawsuit in his future:

A Detroit groundskeeper, who turned in a loaded handgun he found hidden in weeds while working, was fired by the Wayne County Department of Public Services, MyFoxDetroit.com reports.

John Chevilott, who is just two years shy of retirement, found the loaded snub-nosed revolver on May 3 when he and his crew were mowing a lawn in Wayne County. Chevilott secured the gun, waiting for police to drive by so he could hand it over to them.

But, according to the station, the Detroit police never did pass by, so Chevilott finished his work that day, drove the gun home and later that same evening turned it into his local police department.

He says the cops ran the gun and discovered the weapon had been stolen from St. Clair Shores in 2005.

"They said I did the right thing getting it off the street," Chevilott told MyFoxDetroit.com.

However, Chevilott's superiors at the Wayne County Department of Public Services had a much different opinion. His foreman, who had knowledge of the situation, was suspended for 30 days, and after 23 years on the job, Chevilott was fired for violating department policies.

According to a Wayne County spokeswoman and the rules, employees aren't allowed to possess a weapon on work property.

Chevilott says he didn't bring a weapon to work. He found it on the job.

"There is no policy. I've never seen a policy what to do if we find a gun out here. So, all I did was secure the situation to make sure nobody else got hurt or killed."

Firing the guy for THIS? Two years before he's supposed to retire? Detroit is gonna lose big on this one.

"I would say that you ban it under all circumstances and I would predict, I'm not encouraging, but I an predicting that the first guy who uses a Second Amendment weapon to bring a drone down that's been hovering over his house is going to be a folk hero in this country."

They'll never get a jury to convict him.

These guys definitely picked the wrong house to burglarize:

Two Camp Lejeune Marines returned home early Sunday morning to find two men in their house. The intruders didn't make it out of the house alive.

33-year-old, Maurice Skinner and 33-year-old, Diego Everette were identified by police as the men killed in the burglary attempt. Both men are from Jacksonville.

Skinner and Everette were pronounced dead at the scene, but according to Jacksonville Police Chief, Mike Yaniero it is unlikely that anyone will be charged in the shooting.

"The investigation is ongoing, however at this time there is no evidence to suggest that criminal charges be filed."

Chief Yaniero says the department will increase their patrols in the neighborhood.

"We'll be in the neighborhood. We try to stay in those neighborhoods but we will be especially vigilant in that particular neighborhood in the next couple weeks."

Why bother? These two boneheads are dead and gone. They won't be preying on anybody else.  And I'm guessing others with similar ideas will be rethinking their plans.

An armed citizen stops a potential killing spree:

A citizen with a gun stopped a knife wielding man as he began stabbing people Thursday evening at the downtown Salt Lake City Smith's store.

Police say the suspect purchased a knife inside the store and then turned it into a weapon. Smith's employee Dorothy Espinoza says, "He pulled it out and stood outside the Smiths in the foyer. And just started stabbing people and yelling you killed my people. You killed my people."

Espinoza says, the knife wielding man seriously injured two people. "There is blood all over. One got stabbed in the stomach and got stabbed in the head and held his hands and got stabbed all over the arms."

Then, before the suspect could find another victim - a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. "A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith's grabbed him."

By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, "This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time."

Guns in the hands of good people are only threats to bad people.

New Black Panther Thug Arrested For Gun Violation

This guy should have been picked up for solicitation of murder, but this might do for now:

A member of the New Black Panther Party who went on national television to offer a reward for the capture of George Zimmerman was arrested in Gwinnett County.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, Hashim Nzinga, 49 of Norcross, was arrested at probation office he was reporting to in Lawrenceville. He taken to Dekalb County Jail and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A warrant was sworn out in DeKalb County after evidence surfaced that Nzinga tried to pawn a semi-automatic handgun at a Stone Mountain pawn shop.

Nzinga serves as the New Black Panther Party’s Chief of Staff. He recently made news after going on CNN and offering a $10,000 reward for the capture of George Zimmerman whose role in the shooting death of 17 year old Trayvon Martin is currently being investigated by Florida authorities.

What I don't understand is that this guy and others in his thug racist group have placed a bounty on a man who is not a fugitive and not wanted for any crime, and yet nobody in law enforcement or government in Florida has challenged them. These public officials are cowards, so desperate to be on the politically correct side of this issue that they've forgotten that their job includes protecting those who have not been charged with a crime.

Everyone has an opinion on the Trayvon Martin shooting, many of them surprisingly dumb:

Geraldo Rivera said Friday he would “bet money” that Trayvon Martin wouldn’t have been fatally shot if the teenager hadn’t been wearing a hoodie, and the Fox News host’s comments immediately drew a fierce response, with one critic branding him a “moron” on Twitter.

“I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly to not let their children go out wearing hoodies,” Rivera said on “Fox & Friends.” “I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.”

Once again I'll go where no one dares to do. Every day young black men are shot to death...most often by other young black men, and yet I don't see "Million Hoodie" marches or calls for justice for them. I also don't hear Obama talking about how if he had a son they'd look like them. Iowahawk posted this on Twitter:

So why is this case suddenly inspiring such angst? Is it about racism? Well, maybe, but I'm sure many Democrats are despondent over the fact the shooter was Hispanic and not white. That makes the racism charge a lot more tricky since Democrats are desperate to avoid angering the Hispanic community.

I've noticed that most of the media reports I've seen refer to the shooter by name, George Zimmerman, but rarely if ever refer to the fact he's Hispanic.  If he was white don't you think that would be mentioned in every report?  Of course it would.  I'll bet the activists are thrilled the shooter's last name isn't Hernandez, or something else that would be easily identified as Hispanic.

No, what this story is about is gun control. Lefties hate the idea that a citizen can carry a lethal weapon and if threatened, according to Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, use it to defend himself. In lefty land only the police, military, and prominent liberals are allowed to have guns and the average citizen has no right to self defense.  This story will be used to try and get the Florida gun law overturned.  Justice for Trayvon is not the ultimate goal - disarming Floridians is the ultimate goal.

I've noticed that the cries for justice are always one-sided toward Martin, but true justice means justice for ALL, including the shooter.  It means doing our best to investigate what we can about the incident, and if charges can be justified and PROVEN, bring them.  Otherwise, justice demands that the shooter be left alone.  Perhaps this is why the police have been reluctant to press charges:

Before an officer arrived, Trayvon and Zimmerman got into a fight, according to police, and witnesses heard one or both calling for help, and Zimmerman shot Trayvon once with a 9 mm handgun.

Zimmerman told police he acted in self-defense. Police found blood on his face and the back of his head as well as grass on the back of his shirt.

That jibes with what Cheryl Brown's teenage son witnessed while walking his dog that night. Thirteen-year-old Austin stepped out his front door and heard people fighting, he told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday.

"I heard screaming and crying for help," he said. "I heard, 'Help me.' "

It was dark, and the boy did not see how the fight started, in fact, he only saw one person, a man in a red shirt — Zimmerman — who was on the ground.

The boy said he is not sure who called for help. After a moment, his dog escaped, and he turned to catch it and a few seconds later heard a gunshot, he said.

"When I heard the shot, the screaming stopped," he said.

He then rushed inside and told his sister to call police.

In his letter, Robert Zimmerman wrote that what happened that night was "tragic … and very sad for all concerned. The Martin family, our family and the entire community have been forever changed."

George Zimmerman has not talked publicly about what happened, his father said, because that's the advice police gave him. Both Zimmerman families have moved out of their homes, at least temporarily, Robert Zimmerman said, because they've received death threats.

Police on Tuesday turned the case over to the State Attorney's Office, saying they did not have evidence to justify George Zimmerman's arrest on a charge of manslaughter.

We don't know exactly how it started, but if Zimmerman ended up in a fight in which he was fearful for his life, the shooting will probably be justified under Florida law.

Some on the left are trying to condemn Republican candidates for not speaking out on the issue.  There's simply no benefit to GOP candidates to get involved in this.  We're not going to win over black votes by speaking out against the shooter, especially since when we still don't really know what happened.  If a candidate is asked about it, here's the answer they should use:

Thanks for asking. It's a tragic situation, but one that still requires a lot of investigation. I'm confident the law enforcement resources that are working on this case will do everything they can to ensure justice for all parties involved.  Until we know all the facts, it wouldn't be appropriate to speculate on what the outcome might be.

Anybody want to hire me as communications director? I know this stuff. That answer would take a lot of the fire out of the left's accusations. After all, aren't they asking for justice?

As long as the left can gin up anger on this story and distract from more important issues, they'll keep it alive.  However, we are suppose to be a nation of laws, not emotions, and we would all be wise to remember that.

UPDATE: Romney's statement almost sounds like I wrote it:

"What happened to Trayvon Martin is a tragedy. There needs to be a thorough investigation that reassures the public that justice is carried out with impartiality and integrity."
