Hard Line On Benedict XVI

Jonathan V. Last has a great update on all the hard-line critics who are slamming the elevation of Cardinal Ratzinger to Pope. Some of this stuff is just plain unbelievable. Here's just a sample:

"And what is the creed of the Church? That is for the Grand Inquisitor to decide."

"And so the Catholic church accelerates its turn toward authoritarianism, hostility to modernity, assertion of papal supremacy and quashing of internal debate and dissent. We are back to the nineteenth century."

There's plenty more outrage where that came from. Some of these folks are really frosted that the conclave would elect someone who actually believes the teachings of his own church.
