Between a speech he delivered without notes and a question-answer session, Dean regaled an appreciative audience for nearly 90 minutes without once raising his voice, as he did after last year's Iowa primary election. But he did draw howls of laughter by mimicking a drug-snorting Rush Limbaugh. There's an old saying that you don't make enemies of guys who buy their ink by the barrel. Well, I'm not sure it's very smart to keep poking a guy who speaks to 20,000,000 loyal fans each week either. Rush is a pretty potent force when he gets riled up, and stuff like this will just give him more ammunition against the Dems, and a personal reason to be merciless in his approach.
"I'm not very dignified," he said. "But I'm not running for president anymore." In fact, as part of his commitment to lead the party for the next four years, he has sworn not to seek any office until after 2008.
UPDATE: Drudge reminds us that the good Dr. Dean is not without a substance abuse past of his own:
For his soon-to-be-published campaign manifesto, "Winning Back America," Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean takes a confessional approach. He describes his privileged preppie upbringing, his youthful drunken behavior and his occasional adventures in petty theft.People in glass houses....
