A Partridge Tries to Save a Turkey

When not posing naked in coffins on Washington sidewalks, PETA is constantly trying to convince Americans to spare God's little creatures from consumption. The latest attempt is to recruit a Partridge to try to save turkeys:

"Partridge Family" mom Shirley Jones is sticking her neck out for turkeys as Thanksgiving nears, teaming with animal-rights activists to urge Americans not to gobble the traditional bird this holiday.

"I have a special fondness for birds – and not just partridges," says Jones in a new video produced by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. "All birds feel pain and fear."

The singer and actress recommends trying a Tofurky or UnTurkey vegetarian roast instead of a real bird.

Ironically, in the third season of the 1970s "Partridge Family" TV series, one episode featured Jones and her fictional family hired to hawk fried chicken, as Jones and her flock dressed up in chicken suits and gobbled down a bucket of chicken parachuting to the ground.

Go ahead and enjoy your faux turkey if you want, but on this Thanksgiving I'll be in Oklahoma eating the real thing.
