The M&Ms Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon hit a lamppost in Times Square just after 11:30 a.m. The light crashed down on spectators, who were watching the parade in the center median between Seventh Avenue and Broadway, between 43rd and 44th streets.Justice was swift, and the M&Ms were euthanized before they could cause further harm.
Two children were injured in the accident and were both taken to Bellevue Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known.
The family of one of the injured children reportedly came from Albany to see the parade.
The M&Ms balloon was removed to a side street and deflated.
