Oklahoma Report Day 3

Other Oklahoma Trip posts: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Wrap-up

I hope all of you had a blessed Thanksgiving, and if possible, had the chance to spend it with loved ones. We had a wonderful day here in Oklahoma with my cousin Linda, her husband Ron, her mom Helen (my mom's sister), and the HolyCoast parents, my sister's family, and my own brood.

We gathered at Linda and Ron's home which is in Edmund, about 20 miles from....well, anything. The live is a beautiful community of homes surrounding a private lake, with each home having several acres of land. Here's the back of the house as you look up from the lake:

And here's the view out the back as you look across their property toward the lake:

As you can tell from the cloudy skies, it was much cooler today, and will be much cooler again tomorrow. Unlike California, the grass has all gone dormant and most of the trees have lost their leaves, so everything looks a little brown right now. The whole tribe gathered around the table for the Thanksgiving feast. I won't try and introduce everybody, but here's the gang (minus me, of course, since I took the pictures).

After dinner, my son got to do something he's always wanted to do - go fishing. His cousin Linda took him out on the boat and they spent several hours happily catching and releasing perch, croppie and a couple of large mouth bass. They are even rumored to have hooked "Walter", the legendary huge large mouth bass which lives in the lake. Walter, however, would have none of it and swam under the boat and broke the line (at least that's what they tell me). Here's the boy heading out:
He's not happy, is he.

His sister came out later and did some fishing from the bank (also her first time) and caught a small perch. Both of them will be returning tomorrow to continue the battle with the denizens of the deep. I'm a bit amazed at how quickly they both took to fishing, and how much they can't wait to get back at it.

Mrs. HolyCoast and I will probably be going to the Cowboy Hall of Fame and making one or two other stops during the day before another family gathering tomorrow night with the other side of the family tree. There are lots of musicians on that side of the family, and the kids are hoping to show off their musical skills a little bit.

Have a great day after Thanksgiving, and don't get trampled at all the sales!
