Howard the Donkey Does a George McGovern Impression

First we had Jack Murtha declaring unconditional surrender, and then Nancy Pelosi seconded the motion. Now DNC Chairman Howard Dean has flat out announced that the U.S. will not win in Iraq:

Saying the "idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong," Democrat National Chairman Howard Dean predicted today that the Democrat Party will come together on a proposal to withdraw National Guard and Reserve troops immediately, and all US forces within two years.

[...]

"I've seen this before in my life. This is the same situation we had in Vietnam. Everybody then kept saying, 'just another year, just stay the course, we'll have a victory.' Well, we didn't have a victory, and this policy cost the lives of an additional 25,000 troops because we were too stubborn to recognize what was happening."

The Democratic Party has become That 70's Show, and those who have forgotten history are apparently doomed to repeat it. We've got the various cut-and-run Dems like Murtha and Pelosi echoing members of their party from the Vietnam days. We have John Kerry accusing our troops of atrocities (just as he did in 1971), and now we have Howard Dean playing the role of George McGovern.

It worked out so well for the Dems in the '72 election, I guess they've decided to try and play the same cards for '06. If the Vietnam echoes aren't weird enough, Dean adds this:

Dean also compared the controversy over pre-war intelligence to the Watergate scandal which brought down Richard Nixon's presidency in 1974.

Yes, Howie, it's just like Watergate. Now lie down for awhile until the hallucinations go away.
