Seeking to choke off a Republican rallying cry, the House's top Democrat has told colleagues that the party will not seek to impeach President Bush even if it gains control of the House in November's elections, her office said last night. This is clearly a case of damage control. Just the other day Pelosi was singing a different tune. I'll bet they did some polling which showed that most rational people weren't excited about spending the next two years in investigations and hearings, and her statements about such things were hurting their numbers.
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) told her caucus members during their weekly closed meeting Wednesday "that impeachment is off the table; she is not interested in pursuing it," spokesman Brendan Daly said.
There will undoubtedly be much wailing and gnashing of teeth on the angry left as they envision a Dem controlled House without impeachment hearings. Poor babies.
Of course, I don't trust San Fran Nan any farther than I can throw her, so while her lips may say "never", her unblinking eyes say "not so fast".
