Tony Stewart sometimes plays the glowering bad guy on the racetrack, but in real life, he's pretty much a teddybear with a real heart for kids. Tony just pledged his second $1 million gift to the Victory Junction Gang Camp which was established by Kyle and Pattie Petty following the death of their son Adam in a 2000 racing accident in New Hampshire.
Since that day Pattie has never been to the New Hampshire racetrack, and Kyle has been there as little as possible. It's just too painful for them. Tony Stewart decided to do his latest pledge presentation at New Hampshire (where the Cup series is racing this weekend), and in the process may have provided some healing for Kyle and Pattie.
Read the moving story of the gift and the press conference here. It's a whole different side of Tony Stewart than you're used to seeing on race day. I've not been much of a Tony fan, but I'm coming around after reading about his generousity.
UPDATE: Another great article here.
