President Bush delivered a no-holds-barred speech to the Star Wars bar scene that is the United Nations. He pretty much told it like it was, and essentially called the Middle East a completely disfunctional region. It's true, of course, and his words surely won't be greeted warmly by the various despots and religious nutjobs that run that part of the world.
The president made special comments to the people of Afghanistan and Iraq, congratulating them for the big steps they've taken towards a democratic government, and promising to stand by them in the future. He also singled out Lebanon, Iran and Syria for special messages to their people, reminding each of those nations that their people are not free and their leaders are taking them down a dangerous path. It was well done.
You can watch the video of the address here.
The other big address came from Iranian madman Mahmoud AhmedI'manutjob, who spent his time before the assembly rewriting history in an effort to justify the destruction of Israel. As an anti-Semite, he's truly dedicated to the cause (maybe he can get a job with the Webb campaign).
He also blasted the United States and essentially belittled the Security Council. If it wasn't obvious before, it should be obvious now: Iran has no intention to follow any resolutions or other dictates of the UN, and given half a chance, would remove Israel from the earth.
On his show Tuesday morning Rush was predicting that some of the cable channels would run side-by-side comparisons of Bush and AhmedI'manutjob's speeches in an effort to belittle Bush and raise AhmedI'manutjob to a position of equality. I hope they do. There's no comparison between a speech calling for freedom and safety, and a speech calling for genocide.
