Democratic Party boss Howard Dean demanded that Republican presidential candidates denounce conservative columnist Ann Coulter after she referred to Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards as a ‘faggot’ during a speech Friday at a national conservative gathering.
Coulter, who was addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., said:
"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I - so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards."
First of all, the GOP candidates should completely ignore Howard Dean. They didn't make the comments and they don't have to dignify Dean's request by denouncing them. Secondly, unless Coulter can learn to control herself, she shouldn't be allowed to speak at high profile events where news like this can hurt the entire GOP ticket.
On Sunday night the second pilot episode of the 1/2 Hour News Hour will air on Fox News. The show features an opening skit with Rush Limbaugh as the president and Coulter as the vice president. I'll predict right now that if the show is picked up for full production, Coulter won't be on it.
