On the same day that the Supreme Court was indicating significant dissatisfaction with major parts of the McCain-Feingold Incumbent Protection Act, one of the namesakes of that ill conceived law was announcing his bid for the presidency. John McCain is formally in (no surprise there). He currently runs second to Rudy Giuliani in most polls, only because Fred Thompson hasn't gotten in and knocked him down to third. Even without announcing Thompson is only a few points behind McCain, which can't be a comforting thought for the Arizona senator.
If Thompson announces that he's in, McCain won't make it to Iowa.
