Today is Mrs. HolyCoast's birthday. I won't tell you which birthday (I'd like to have another one myself), but we'll be spending the day celebrating. She has wanted to see the new gem exhibit at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, and after that we're going to head to Disneyland for dinner at the Blue Bayou (inside Pirates of the Caribbean).
Twenty years ago on this day, which wasn't long after we were married, I surprised her with annual passes to Disneyland. There were just two of us back then and we spent every available opportunity at the park. Often we'd just go in, have dinner, and sit and people watch while waiting for the fireworks. When the kids came along we brought them with us, though we had to start spending more time waiting in line for rides. Since 1987 we've had passes continuously, except for a brief 15 month period in the mid-90's when they got really expensive and we tried Knott's Berry Farm for awhile.
Now one of our kids is close to leaving home, and before you know it there will only be two of us again. Kind of sad when you think about it, but such is life. At least we'll always have the park.
