A huge wave in Daytona Beach, Fla., crashed over a fireworks barge Wednesday night, forcing officials to cancel the city's annual Fourth of July show.In Philly, the threat of severe weather caused local officials to cancel, and then reinstate their show...after most of the people had gone home:
Officials said the wave hit the barge before 9 p.m. and washed more than half of the pyrotechnics off the vessel and into the water.
The barge was located in front of Ocean Walk in Daytona Beach when the mortar display was hit by the wave.
(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA Philadelphia city officials decided to go forth with their scheduled Fourth of July fireworks presentation at the Art Museum late Wednesday night, and the 20-minute show went off despite the rain and original reports the show had been cancelled. Many of the spectators, who camped out for hours, went home missing the spectacular sight.
In D.C., severe weather forced the Metro Police to evacuate the Washington Mall for a time and move everyone into the various Smithsonian museums. Last I heard that weather cleared up in time for the evening fireworks (perhaps the weather got a commutation from President Bush).
