The NAACP convention is going on right now (a previous post about their unhinged leader is here) and they've invited all the presidential candidates to appear. Several Dems will show up, but so far only one Republican, Rep. Tom Tancredo, has agreed to appear. The rest of them are citing "scheduling conflicts".
Look folks, none of the other GOP candidates have schedule conflicts. They've known about this thing for at least two months and have made the deliberate effort to stay the heck away from there. The GOP don't do crazy, and crazy is what the NAACP is handing out in droves.
There's absolutely no benefit for any Republican to appear before that audience. Those folks are probably 99% or more Democrat and wouldn't be pursuaded to change even if the ghosts of Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks ghost walked in there and told them to. The NAACP is simply hoping to gain some sort of credibility by getting a GOP candidate to come in there and prostrate himself before their great assemblage. It's a fool's errand for any GOP candidate who shows up, and the big guys know that.
