I really mix Fox Sports during the second half of the NASCAR season. None of the other networks come close to the quality of the broadcast, and especially the announcing, of Fox. This is ESPN's first year back in NASCAR since the age of the new TV contract (which started in 2001), and they're driving me crazy. Rusty Wallace, former NASCAR champion, is one of the main three announcers, and every other time Rusty speaks he starts with "I tell you what". I've probably heard him say it 100 times in the first half of today's race at Pocono. I'm almost to the point of turning off the sound.
Wallace isn't the only one on the crew with the same vocal crutch. Tim Brewer, their technical analyst is a frequent abuser, as is Brad Dougherty in the hosting booth. Does anyone at ESPN watch, and especially listen, to their own broadcasts??
I tell you what - they're going to drive the viewers nuts.
(By the way, I wrote about this problem several months ago. I was hoping ESPN would have this fixed before they started Cup broadcasts.)
