Senate Dems Rolled by the GOP Again

In a previous post I mentioned that when it comes to Iraq policy, the Dems have made a habit of threatening all kinds of dire consequences...right before they're rolled by the GOP and end up supporting what the President wants. It happened again today in the Senate:

The US Senate Monday passed a mammoth 648 billion dollar defense policy bill, shorn of attempts by disappointed anti-war Democrats to dictate President George W. Bush's Iraq strategy.

The bill included around 128 billion dollars for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to a Congressional Budget Office estimate.

The legislation passed by 92 votes to three after Democrats lost several attempts to dictate US troop levels in Iraq.

The three "no's" came from Robert Byrd, Tom Coburn and Russ Feingold. None of the Dem presidential candidates (Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Chris Dodd or Joe Beiden) managed to be there to vote. Gee, I wonder why?

As Captain Ed points out, this story has gone largely unreported in the mainstream press. I guess they don't dare let the nutroots know what's going on with the Democrats that they think they control.
