Regular readers know I've been a fan of Mission Viejo High School football since my kids started attending there in 2003. The team has won its league championship every year, and has won one CIF championship in that time (2004). They haven't lost a league game since 1999, though they nearly lost one a couple of weeks ago when they tied San Clemente on a 40 yard field goal with .5 seconds to go.
Tonight Mission (3-0-1 in league play) faces Tesoro (4-0) in the league championship game. This is something new for MV fans since the league championship hasn't been in doubt this century. It's also a small conflict in the HolyCoast household. The kids go to Mission, but the wife works at Tesoro. The kids always win out so you'll find us on the Mission side of the field.
Tesoro has been suprisingly tough this year, beating San Clemente earlier in the season in a big upset. There's no doubt that they will be highly motivated to play well tonight. Their JV team beat Mission 37-20 yesterday, so they'll be fired up. It should be a great game.
UPDATE: Tesoro 28 - Mission Viejo 24. The story is here.
