A high school student in Mission Viejo, California is suing his history teacher for repeated disparaging remarks against Christians. One source tells me that this guy has been doing this stuff for years. I talked to my recent high school graduate daughter about it and she said that most students probably didn't really care because if the teacher was going off on a rant, he wasn't teaching AP Euro History which was a lot more boring. She said she had teachers in school that were equally prone to rants of various types and if the kids could get them going, it beat the heck out of regular schoolwork.
Sophomore Chad Farnan recorded some of the statements by teacher James Corbett, including: "When you put on your Jesus glasses, you can't see the truth." Corbett also suggested churchgoers are more likely to commit rape and murder and said Christians are like Muslim fundamentalists who want women to, "stay pregnant, barefoot and in the kitchen and have babies until your body collapses."
The parent of another student has already removed her child from Corbett's classes saying, "the mockery of religion was a main focus in the classroom."
Corbett is not commenting and the school says it needs more time to look into the situation.
Unfortunately, in the case of the teacher from the story above, his kids suffered because other reports of this teacher indicated that his kids did poorly on the AP tests.
What I don't understand is how you can be so hostile toward religion that it dominates everything you do even to the point of jeopardizing your career and making you a laughingstock among your peers.
