Huck Within Eight Points in California

Well, knock me over with plate of chitlins. I never thought Mike Huckabee would have any sort of serious chance of winning California, but he's climbed within shooting range of Rudy:
In a Republican Presidential Primary in California today, 12/17/07, seven weeks to the vote, Rudolph Giuliani wins, but his margin of victory, which two months ago was 21 points, is today 8 points, according to SurveyUSA's 9th pre-primary CA tracking poll ... Giuliani's support is eroding, from 39% two months ago, to 28% today. Several candidates are making inroads, but none more so than Mike Huckabee, who finished 5th with 8% support 6 weeks ago, and who finishes 2nd with 20% support today.

California is not a winner take all state (at least on the GOP side). Our delegates are parceled out according to the winner in each congressional district. Consequently, you can win the state but not necessarily win most of the delegates. It all comes down to location, location, location. Huck could win in the more conservative districts while losing big in the more liberal ones and still pick up a bunch of delegates.
