By now you must be aware that the Santa Rosa City Council has taken a courageous step and voted to impeach our president.I can't find a link to the column because the local paper's website is such a hash and doesn't even have a search box for news items. The writer goes on to say that he thinks Bush is the worst president ever (you just knew a Northern California columnist couldn't retain his sanity for more than three paragraphs), but the council shouldn't be wasting their time on meaningless impeachment votes. However, wasting time on meaningless protest movements is standard fare for NorCal.
In the above paragraph the word "courageous" can be read to mean "caved in", "rolled over", or "scampered to safety".
It is interesting that a number of letter writers supporting the action used the word "courageous" to describe what was really a pretty timid vote. The council was faced with a large crowd and a petition with 2,000 signatures demanding they vote to impeach someone they had absolutely no authority to impeach. Courage in this case would have been a firm "no".
I've had some experience with the "Impeach Bush" crowd in Santa Rosa before. Back in October I was visiting up here and stumbled onto a moronic convergence in downtown Santa Rosa featuring all the local nuts. I made a short video report of my visit to the protest rally which you can see here.
There are reports that other local towns, like Petaluma and Cotati, will also be taking up impeachment measures. I'm sure the Bush White House is quaking in fear.
