Early Returns From South Carolina

The early numbers are coming from South Carolina and the news is not good for Fred Heads. It looks like Fred will finish no better than third, and may end up fourth. This is probably the end of that campaign.

UPDATE: Not so fast. Apparently Fred will soldier on. I read one note that said he's done quite a bit of work in Louisiana which votes on Tuesday. Who knows, he might get a win.

With 13% in McCain is leading Huckabee 34% to 30%. Thompson and Romney are both around 15%. It doesn't look good for conservatives tonight.

Interesting note, in the exit polls McCain and Huckabee tied at 30% among Republicans. However, since this is an open primary and independents can vote in the GOP primary (which I really hate), McCain won 39% to 30% for Huckabee. Once again McCain is counting on non-Republicans to win. Once the closed primaries start hitting, he may find himself in trouble.

UPDATE: 2 FOX CALLS SOUTH CAROLINA FOR MCCAIN. Looks like McCain will win by 3% or so. Bad news for the GOP.

UPDATE 3: Duncan Hunter is leaving the race (I'll bet you didn't even realize he was still in it). He's a good guy and a staunch conservative, but never had a prayer of winning.
