Can the Nation Afford to Hire Michelle Obama as First Lady?

Jim Geraghty points out another "interesting" speech by Michelle Obama. Here's what we can look forward to in an Obama presidency:

Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.

Mark Steyn adds this:

Ask not what your country can change for you, ask how you can change for your country. Good luck with that.

The Obama campaign tried to walk back her "pride" comments yesterday and accomplished little in the process. Rather than apologize, she sought to claim "of course I'm proud of America", which doesn't explain anything and only confirms her original statement that "for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country". The woman is a loose cannon and the more she speaks the more ammo she gives to the GOP.

The Democrats haven't objected to the statement at all because, frankly, they agree with her.
