My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over, for unto us is born this day in the city of Daytona Beach, the 2008 NASCAR season which officially starts tonight with the running of the Bud Shootout at Daytona (boy, how's that for mixing historical pronouncements). Qualifying for the 500 starts tomorrow and on Thursday the Twin 150 qualifying races sort out the field. By Friday all three major series are back in action culminating with the Daytona 500 on Sunday.
No longer do we have to put up with nothing but football, hockey, basketball or golf on weekend TV. It's time once again to hear the immortal words of Darrell Waltrip: "BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY!".
Ahh, it's good to be an American.
