WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has upheld Kentucky's use of lethal injections for executions.Get those last meal orders in.
The justices, in a fractured decision, rejected a constitutional challenge to the procedures in place in Kentucky, which uses three drugs to sedate, paralyze and kill inmates.
Executions have been on hold since September, when the court agreed to hear the Kentucky case. There was no immediate indication when they would resume.
In an interesting juxtaposition, this ruling came down at almost the same moment the Pope, an opponent of capital punishment, arrived at the White House for a meeting with President Bush. I had heard earlier that capital punishment was a possible issue the Pope planned to bring up in his talks with President Bush.
