Thirteenth Anniversary of My 39th Birthday

Knowing my 34-year involvement in the gospel quartet business, my sister sent me this:

I think I sang with those guys once.

Yes, it's that time of the year when the old personal odometer clicks over one more time. Not officially a "seasoned" citizen yet, but when you're only a high school senior away from 70, senior discounts can't be that far off. And believe me, when I qualify, I'm going to get every one I can.

To celebrate the day we're going to do another train trip. We had such a good time going up to Hollywood in February aboard the Metrolink and subway that we're going to do something like that again.

We'll be taking the train out to Riverside this time. It's about an hour train ride, which is less than it might take you to drive the same distance at certain times of the day. The round trip is only $12 per person, and with nearly $4 a gallon for gas, the price is right too.

A few blocks from the Riverside Metrolink station is the historic Mission Inn, the hotel where Ronald and Nancy Reagan spent the first night of their honeymoon, and where 10 presidents have visited. My wife has always wanted to check it out, so we'll drop by.

Right by the station is the Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant, one of our favorites. We usually go to the one in Newport Beach, but this is the next best thing. We'll ride back home in the afternoon, and because most of the rail commuters will be going in the other direction, the trains shouldn't be too crowded.

I'll have pictures later on.
