Obama Superdelegate Ready to Push for Polygamy

California Rep. Fortney "Pete" Stark just announced his support for Barack Obama, and during an interview on XM radio, was asked his thoughts on the California gay marriage decision. After spouting the usual tripe about Christians and homophobes, he then added this (h/t Campaign Spot):
I wonder what they're going to do with the Mormons. I'd like to put polygamy up if they want to fight this battle. Let's go into Utah and have it out. I mean, I don't have any quarrel with polygamy, as long as they leave little kids alone, which is child abuse.

But if you want to have three husbands, be my guest. I think that to me, that's your decision.

I think it's kind of humorous you're going to find the Mormons leading the fight against gay marriage, which is an interesting commentary on what you believe.

One of the major objections that many conservatives have about the Supreme's decision is that it will open the doors to all kinds of wacky behavior. The decision stated that Prop. 22 was unconstitutional partly because it made some people "feel" that they were being discriminated against. Well, what about the guy who's feeling discriminated against because the State won't let him marry his sheep? What about the 40-year old male NAMBLA member who wants to marry a 12-year old boy? And what about the Arkansas transplant that wants to marry his sister? (Sorry, cheap shot.)

As, of course, as Obama superdelegate Rep. Stark reminds us, what about polygamists?

Slippery slope, folks, slippery slope.
