Obama's "Global Test"

For those of you who were paying close attention during the 2004 campaign, you'll remember that during a debate in Coral Gables, FL John Kerry suggested preemptive miliary action by the United States needed to pass a "global test" - in other words, required approval from other countries. George W. Bush recognizes a hanging curve ball when he sees it, and he slammed it out of the park as he mocked Kerry for his words and the term "global test" was hung around Kerry's neck for the rest of the campaign. It undoubtedly cost Kerry many votes among working-class Americans who don't think the U.S. needs to go hat-in-hand to the world's nations to request permission to act in our own best interest.

Now, in keeping with his liberal Dem roots, Barack Obama gives us his version of the "global test". Campaigning among the libs in Oregon he had this to say:
"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

Really? America can't do what it wants to do without the approval of other nations? The way we live our lives requires passing a "global test"?

I'm sure the Oregon liberals nodded their empty heads knowingly and agreed with the Obamessiah that leadership means doing what other nations want us to do.

The main problem with modern day liberalism can be summed up by Obama's statement. Modern day liberals do not believe in the concept of American exceptionalism - the idea that America is a special place given a unique role among the world's nations. Modern day liberals often believe just the opposite, that America is the source of evil in the modern world and that until we hang our head in abject shame and guilt, only then can we take our diminished place among the society of nations.

If the GOP has any brains at all they've already got an ad in the can with this statement, comparing it to Kerry's gaffe in 2004. Hillary is probably rejoicing as Obama once again gives her a reason to stay in the race and argue that she is he more electable candidate. This statement, like his "bitter Americans" remark, will cause long-standing damage to Obama's campaign (assuming the GOP is capable of handling it correctly). Millions of Americans will not respond well to the idea that America must bow to the will of other nations and receive approval for how we choose to live.

Thank you , Obama. You just flunked your "global test".
