Killer SUV

A killer SUV is on the loose in Washington:

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) -- A man is dead after his SUV drove into secluded Yale Lake in north Clark County.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office says it appears the vehicle drove off a logging road into the lake early Saturday.

To read the story you'd assume the SUV drove into the lake on its own with the man as the helpless victim. I know there's some anti-SUV sentiment at the AP, but this is taking things a bit too far.

It's really just sloppy writing. The story should have read as follows:

VANCOUVER, Wash. (HC) -- A man is dead after he drove his SUV into secluded Yale Lake in north Clark County.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office says it appears the he drove the vehicle off a logging road into the lake early Saturday.

You never read stories worded like the AP report when the vehicle is a Prius, though I could imagine how such a story might be written by an environmentally conscious reporter:

VANCOUVER, Wash. (EC) -- A man is dead after his Prius sacrificed itself to Gaia and drove into secluded Yale Lake in north Clark County.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office says it appears the vehicle selflessly gave it's all to make the world a better and greener place by droving off a logging road into the lake early Saturday and taking its CO2-spewing partner with it.

Now, that's a story.
