Senator Barack Obama has announced a three-person search team to vet candidates to be his vice-presidential running mate.
Caroline Kennedy will join Jim Johnson, a veteran of such selection processes, and Eric Holder, former deputy Attorney General in the Clinton administration.
Bill Burton, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, said in a statement that these three “talented and dedicated” people would be “managing this rigorous process.”
But, and there was a but, Mr. Burton added: “He will work closely with them in the coming weeks but ultimately this will be his decision and his alone.”
Caroline Kennedy?? What possible expertise in picking Vice Presidents does she bring to the committee? Her endorsement was symbolic at best, and I expect that her position on this committee is likewise symbolic. A little affirmative action for Kennedys, I suppose.
