Two of the three Triple Crown races have a political component to them. In the Kentucky Derby Barack Obama was pulling for Big Brown while Hillary Clinton openly rooted for the only filly, Eight Belles, in the race. Eight Belles came in 2nd, and then broke a leg and was put down right there on the track. Funny thing - Hillary's campaign did pretty much the same thing (though Hillary was allowed to walk away).
Now the Belmont Stakes has been run and Big Brown was the overwhelming favorite to take the race and the Triple Crown. Big Brown finished last. Could this be a preview of the fall campaign?
The other "Big Brown", Barack Obama, is now being touted as the overwhelming favorite to take the big prize in November. Will he fade as badly in the general election race as Big Brown did in the Belmont? It wouldn't surprise me a bit.
