Obamessiah's Team Tries to Backpeddle From Latest Gaffe

Barack Obama has clearly decided to play the race card in every way he can. He wants it ingrained in the American psyche that if you don't vote for him it's because you're racist. He wants to "guilt" his way into the White House.

Yesterday, in a speech in Missouri, he added to his gaffe collection and is now frantically trying to undo the damage:

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama, the first black candidate with a shot at winning the White House, says John McCain and his Republican allies will try to scare them by saying Obama "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."

Obama didn't make clear what distinctions McCain was likely to raise regarding the presidents on U.S. currency, men who are white and, for the most part, much older than Obama when they were elected. McCain has not raised Obama's race as an issue in the campaign, though he has said that Obama lacks experience.

Stumping in an economically challenged battleground state, Obama argued Wednesday that President Bush and McCain will resort to scare tactics to maintain their hold on the White House because they have little else to offer voters.

"Nobody thinks that Bush and McCain have a real answer to the challenges we face. So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me," Obama said. "You know, he's not patriotic enough, he's got a funny name, you know, he doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds declined to comment Thursday on Obama's remarks.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said the senator was not referring to race.

"What Barack Obama was talking about was that he didn't get here after spending decades in Washington," Gibbs said Thursday. "There is nothing more to this than the fact that he was describing that he was new to the political scene. He was referring to the fact that he didn't come into the race with the history of others. It is not about race."

What unadulterated bovine excrement. Of course he was referring to race. If not, he would have stated it another way. He's no longer the postracial Obamessiah, he's just Jesse Jackson without a girlfriend and illegitimate child.

It's nonsense like this which help explain why he's gone from a 9 point lead in the Gallup Daily tracking poll just a week ago to only 1 point today. His act is wearing thin.

Here's a little advice to exit pollsters on election day: Your results are going to be crap. The racial nonsense being peddled by Obama and his team are going to create such a "Bradley effect" that after this election it will be known as the "Obama effect". Out of fear of being considered a racist voter after voter will tell the exit pollsters that they voted for the Obamessiah when in fact they voted for McCain or someone else. The exit numbers from a great many critical states will lean heavily toward Obama only to look completely different when the raw vote is tallied. I'm predicting right now that there will be some bad calls made on election night. I only hope it doesn't change the eventual outcome by suppressing conservative votes in the West.
