Dumb Political Question of the Day

This one doesn't come from a journalist, but from a dim bulb citizen of Maryland:
While voter apathy won't be a problem, their excitement is tempered by serious doubts about fairness at the polls.

"You ask yourself the question: Will white America let a black man run this country?" Baltimore resident Raymond Hall said. "For me, my opinion, the answer is no. So I really don't think it's going to be fair."

How dumb is this? Let me count the ways. Mr. Hall has just defined "fairness" as "white America letting a black man run this country". Fairness has nothing to do with it. Fairness is every eligible citizen (emphasis on the words "eligible citizen") having the opportunity to cast their ballot, and then each vote being tabulated. That's fairness. The outcome doesn't matter when it comes to real fairness.

Mr. Hall is one of those who is already convinced that America is a racist country, and will have his fears validated if Obama loses. The loss won't be because America rejected Obama the unqualified lefty street agitator candidate, it will be because America is racist and rejected Obama the black guy.

The article this quote came from detailed the fears of many Maryland voters that there will be irregularities in the voting, such as occurred in 2004. You can read the article for the details, but let me just remind everybody that Maryland is run by Democrats. Take your problems up with the management.

As far as "America letting a black man run this country", recent surveys have shown that Mr. Hall's concerns should rest not with Republicans, but white Democrats who are showing a reluctance to vote for The Great Black Hope. Republicans will not reject Obama because he's black, they'll reject him because he's an unqualified lefty Democrat.

I would venture a guess that a great percentage of Republicans would be thrilled to vote for a qualified black candidate (I would). For instance, Maryland's own Michael Steele comes to mind. Or perhaps Ken Blackwell from Ohio, or J.C. Watts from Oklahoma or Condi Rice from California. Granted, there aren't many black Republicans in the upper realms of the GOP, but that's not because the GOP hasn't tried to reach out to the black community. For reasons that probably have a lot to do with government entitlement programs blacks have chosen to walk almost lockstep with Democrats. Obama will probably get 95% of the black vote. Those same entitlement programs are probably responsible for the destruction of black family in the inner cities, and the fact that before the late 60's the Democratic Party was the party of choice for Southern racists and segregationists doesn't seem to matter anymore.

All of us hope the election is fair, and I think Republicans have much more to fear from election irregularities than do Democrats. Just look at what's going on in Ohio. Let's just hope the vote stealing the Dems are known for won't be enough to affect the results.
