McCain Had Better Be Careful He Doesn't Undo the Palin Bounce

When John McCain suggested the other day that the appropriate course of action in light of the financial crisis was to fire Republican Chris Cox from the SEC and replace him with Democrat Andrew Cuomo, it brought back all the bad memories I had about McCain and his relationships with his fellow Republicans. One commenter had The Corner had this to say about a column George Will wrote which basically excoriated McCain for his ill-conceived plan:

[The column] Articulates why my vote for McCain has gone something like this:

1. Stay at home – not vote for McCain

2. Post Saddleback debate – vote for McCain

3. Selection of Palin – donate $$ to McCain/Palin

4. McCain’s reaction to Wall St financial crisis, esp criticism of Cox and suggestion of bringing in Andrew Cuomo – see position number 1

McCain hasn't got conservative support so completely locked up that he can afford to throw out ideas that would remind conservatives of his anti-conservative past.
