The Gallup Poll numbers seem to indicate a surge of support for Barack Obama, but it that really happening? DJ Drummond over at Wizbang has done some number crunching in a long and detailed piece that would indicate that the changes could be coming more from the methodology used by Gallup than by an actual shift in voter preferences. In fact, Drummond shows where over the last week as Gallup's totals have moved towards Obama, McCain has gained ground or remained steady with almost every voting group while Obama has lost ground or remained steady. The underlying numbers don't support the top level results.
It's worth the read.
