Sunday Train Watching

Back on June 1st I spent the better part of the day chasing down Santa Fe Steam Locomotive 3751 which was making a special excursion run from Los Angeles to San Diego and back. It was fun to see that old steam locomotive roaring down the tracks near my house.

Tomorrow that same locomotive will be making that run again, this time pulling a consist made up of up to 26 privately owned rail cars that will be making the trip to San Diego and back before ending up in San Pedro for a convention. A friend of mine who graduated in my same high school class owns one of the cars that will be running on Sunday.

If you've never seen a genuine steam locomotive outside of Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm, you ought to try and see this thing go by on Sunday. My friend sent the proposed schedule for the trip (of course, subject to change):
  • SOUTHBOUND
  • 7:00 am - leave Los Angeles
  • 8:00 am - Fullerton
  • 8:16 am - Santa Ana
  • 8:29 am - Irvine
  • 8:47 am - San Juan Capistrano
  • 9:00 am - San Clemente
  • 9:30 am - Oceanside
  • 10:52 am - Solana Beach
  • 11:45 am - Old Town
  • 11:55 am San Diego

  • NORTHBOUND
  • 3:20 pm - San Diego
  • 3:30 pm - Old Town
  • 4:45 pm - Solana Beach
  • 5:20 pm - Oceanside
  • 7:05 pm - San Juan Capistrano
  • 7:20 pm - Irvine
  • 7:35 pm - Santa Ana
  • 7:45 pm - Anaheim
  • 7:55 pm - Fullerton
  • 10:30 pm - San Pedro

I'm going to try and get some video down in San Clemente along the beach and if it turns out well I'll put it up on YouTube.
