Change You Can Believe In - a Leak a Day

After the Bush Administration, which was often criticized for being too secretive (that is to say they wouldn't leak to the press as much as the press liked), the new administration promises to be a boon for newspaper reporters looking for a scoop. The people who surround Obama don't know how to shut up:
Announcing the closure of the controversial detention facility would be among the most potent signals the incoming administration could send of its sharp break with the Bush era, according to the advisers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak for the president-elect. They believe the move would create a global wave of diplomatic and popular goodwill that could accelerate the transfer of some detainees to other countries.

This follows closely on the heels of the leaks that came out after Obama's meeting with Bush on Monday. The Obama team, obviously enamored with their new power, will be a boon to reporters as these arrogant little jerks run to the media to show how important they are and how much they know, while at the same time undermining their boss.

As far as the meat of the story above, closing Gitmo has all kinds of pitfalls. What is Obama going to do with the terrorists that fill that place, send them to Chicago to become enforcers? Let ACORN have them to sign up new voters (it will be hard to say no to a guy with a knife to your throat)?

Their home countries in many cases will not take them back. And what facility in the United States will be secure enough to house them, let along the political fallout from whatever community gets stuck with Abdul and his terrorist brothers?

Gitmo made perfect sense. It kept the terrorists well away from innocent citizens, kept them out of the U.S. court system, and kept Americans safe. Closing it might send a thrill up the leg of some foreign governments, but it would be a mistake for America.
