A Little Bit of Good News

  • The Democrats will not get 60 Senate seats.
  • The pickup in the House will not be as big as feared.
  • It looks like porn-writing "comic" Al Franken will not become a Senator (assuming the current lead by Norm Coleman holds).
  • Convicted felon Sen. Ted Stevens will likely win in Alaska, but won't likely serve for long. The Senate could toss him out, and if they do, Sarah Palin will appoint his replacement. At least the seat will remain in the GOP. The same may end up being true of Don Young's House seat.
  • The anti-gay marriage amendment in Florida is winning with a 2-1 margin. The Arizona measure looks like it will pass, and a similar measure in California (Prop 8) is winning 53%-47% with 27% reporting and looks good for passage (the results from all California ballot measures can be found here).
  • There will be no lawsuits, hanging chads, claims of "stolen" elections or Supreme Court rulings. Unlike 2000 (and to some degree 2004), it's over.
  • Sarah Palin will only be 48 and Bobby Jindal 40 in 2012. And they're not the only young conservatives who have serious potential in a national campaign.
  • We'll never have the dismal prospect of John McCain as our "conservative" nominee for anything ever again.
