Obama Will Expand Program of Handing Terror Prisoners to Countries That Torture

Remember all the hand wringing about torture and waterboarding and such. Of course, the U.S. never tortured anybody. We made some people mighty uncomfortable, but torture it wasn't.

However, some of our allies in the war on terror have, shall we say, "lower standards" when it comes to treatment of prisoners and some of our prisoners were handed off to them through the process known as "rendition". Hollywood made a completely forgettable movie about the perceived sins of rendition (though since nobody went to see it, I guess they couldn't forget what they haven't seen).

Word comes today that The One, the all compassionate new leader of the free world, has decided that rendition wasn't such a bad thing after all and may in fact expand the program:
Obama preserves renditions as counter-terrorism tool
The role of the CIA’s controversial prisoner-transfer program may expand, intelligence experts say.

Under executive orders issued by Obama recently, the CIA still has authority to carry out what are known as renditions, secret abductions and transfers of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the United States.

Current and former U.S. intelligence officials said that the rendition program might be poised to play an expanded role going forward because it was the main remaining mechanism — aside from Predator missile strikes — for taking suspected terrorists off the street.

The rendition program became a source of embarrassment for the CIA, and a target of international scorn, as details emerged in recent years of botched captures, mistaken identities and allegations that prisoners were turned over to countries where they were tortured.

But the Obama administration appears to have determined that the rendition program was one component of the Bush administration’s war on terrorism that it could not afford to discard.

Well, lefties, how does it feel to be officially pro-torture? You won't let us house the bad guys in Gitmo because keeping them in a Caribbean paradise is cruel and unusual. Instead you want to ship them to countries that will make decorative knick-knacks out of their private parts.

With every day that passes we realize how well the Bush administation handled the whole war on terror, and how ridiculous the left looks in their opposition.
