Set Your DVRs for Some Good Racing

The second step involved in qualifying for the Daytona 500 takes place today as every car entered races in one of two 150 mile qualifying races, known as the Gatorade Duel 150s. Fifty-six cars will run in the two races for 43 spots in the 500. Thirty five of those cars have guaranteed spots in the race (though their starting position will be determined in the Duels), plus a couple of others are likely to get in based on their qualifying times, so the remaining few spots will be determined by the finishes in the Duels.

Given that just starting the race on Sunday guarantees a payday of about $250,000, it gets pretty hectic during the last few laps of each race. Lots of drama.

The TV coverage starts at 11am on SpeedTV.
