Embryos Safe For Another Year

After a big splash at the White House heralding a new era where "science returns to its rightful place" and all that nonsense, Don Surber advises the rookie president that he really should read what he's signing:
Maybe embryonic stem cell research can cure the Signing-Without-Reading Disease. ...

CNS reported that 2 days after he said embryonic stem cell research will be the law of the land, President Obama signed a ban on embryonic stem cell research into law.

“The provision was buried in the 465-page omnibus appropriations bill that Obama signed Wednesday. Known as the Dickey-Wicker amendment, it has been included in the annual appropriations bill for the Department of Health and Human Services every fiscal year since 1996,”
CNS reported.

The ban goes back to the Clinton era.

CNS said the amendment said in part: “None of the funds made available in this Act may be used for — (1) the creation of a human embryo or embryos for research purposes; or (2) research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death.”

Maybe if they put the bill on a TelePrompTer, President Obama might have read it.

Obama could have made an issue of lots of things in the omnibus bill, none the least of which was the massive amount of pork projects. He, however, chose to refer to it as "last year's business" and didn't make the Congress tow the line.

Now, he just looks silly.
