CA Ballot Proposition Recommendations

Based on polls, it looks like 5 of the 6 California Ballot Propositions on tomorrow's special election ballot will go down in defeat. While driving many miles today I heard a couple of discussions on the initiatives and will offer my recommendations:
  • 1A - will extend the tax hikes recently enacted for two more years and will supposedly create a "rainy day" fund. Just a few years ago we passed Prop 58 which was supposed to create a "rainy day" fund. How'd that work out? NO.
  • 1B - pretends that it will pay back the schools when the economy comes back. Will never happen. NO.
  • 1C - will borrow money from future Lottery earnings to pay current bills. Dumb idea. NO.
  • 1D & 1E - Here's where it gets interesting. While driving this morning I heard a commercial sponsored by Rob Reiner encouraging a "NO" vote on 1D & 1E. What are the chances that Rob Reiner and I would ever agree on anything? Not good, because after getting a little more information on 1D & 1E I found out that they'll undo some damage done by people like Reiner and others who have put these "feel good" propositions on the ballot in recent years for early childhood education or mental health services. 1D & E will keep these old initiatives from putting mandatory spending requirements in the budget and making tax hikes more likely. Verdict: YES ON BOTH.
  • 1F - the "stick it to 'em" initiative which denies lawmakers raises in years where CA faces a budget deficit. Why not? YES.
Vote early and vote often.
