President Barack Obama will announce new vehicle-emission rules tomorrow, setting the first-ever nationwide limit on greenhouse-gas pollution from autos, said people familiar with the plan.
The move would force automakers to meet a fuel-economy standard for 2016 models of slightly less than 35.5 miles a gallon, a target Congress has said wouldn’t have to be met until 2020, according to one of the people, who asked not to be identified until the plan is made public.
The action is the “biggest single step to curb global warming” and mirrors California’s proposed standard to cut emissions 30 percent by 2016, Dan Becker, director of the environmental group Safe Climate Campaign, said in an interview.
Well, good news, because this program has already succeeded even before it was implemented. Global warming ended in 1998. However, the destruction of the U.S. auto industry has just begun.
In the midst of an economic crisis, what is really more important, saving the auto industry or fighting against non-existent global warming? The president thinks you can do both, but you can't.
If you really want to save all those jobs in the auto industry, here's how you do it. Dump the CAFE standards and tell the auto companies to build as many as they can of whatever they can sell. Quit destroying the free market with government intervention.
Unfortunately, that won't happen because Obama and the environwackos who believe as he does, do not want you to drive the vehicle of your choice. They want you to drive some "spam-in-a-can" compact that gets great mileage but will endanger your life. They're willing to let you die to "save the planet".
Never mind the fact that the planet doesn't need saving.
