MISSION VIEJO – Organizers of an April 15 "Tea Party" are planning a follow-up rally on May 18 to oppose the propositions facing California voters the next day.
The propositions are required to implement the February state budget deal.
The Saddleback Republican Assembly, which is organizing the rally, is targeting tax increases contained in that deal. The group's president, Michael Ferrall, said the rally is also a protest against what he views as excessive state spending.
"It's just a matter of philosophical principle, from a conservative perspective," Ferrall said.
On April 15, the Republican group organized a Tea Party — "Taxed Enough Already" — to protest increased federal spending. It was one of hundreds of events around the country, including several in Orange County.
About 600 people attended the April 15 rally, according to the Assembly. One of the attendees, Rick Moore, said he plans to return for a second event because he wants Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Legislature to "get serious" about cutting the budget.
"It's going to wake up the people in Sacramento to the ways that the people are in kind of in an ugly mood," said Moore, 53, of Mission Viejo. "People in California are not a bunch of happy campers right now."
How eloquent. I think the writer added an extra prepositional phrase or two to what I said, but the meaning is there. Hard to believe a 20 minute interview can be condensed to just two paragraphs.
