Pageant Officials Claim Miss California is In Breach of Contract

I can see now how this is gonna play out. I'll tell you what I think is going to happen in a moment.

Officials with the Miss California USA Pageant said today in Beverly Hills that title-holder Carrie Prejean is in breach of contract and "entered the contest under false pretenses." Donald Trump, who owns the Miss USA pageant, will decide tomorrow whether she will keep her crown.

Prejean didn't inform contest officials about her involvement with anti-gay marriage organizations and failed to show up for public appearances as required under her contract with the Miss USA organization, said Keith Lewis and Shannon Moakler, co-executive directors of Miss California USA.

Prejean's brief reign has been clouded by controversy over semi-nude photos and her comments on gay marriage. She made national headlines last month when during the Miss USA pageant she said that marriage should be between a man and woman.

The semi-nude pictures are a sideshow. If the pageant tries to fire her just for those they're going to have a problem because as Don Surber points out, Miss Rhode Island also took semi-nude shots and nobody is trying to fire her.

What they're going to do is fire Miss Prejean on the basis that she has violated her contract in the days since the Miss USA pageant. Her involvement with the pro-traditional marriage campaign will be the primary excuse. The won't dare touch on the real issue which is her statements regarding gay marriage at the pageant. And the fact that she simply repeated the views of a majority of Californians won't matter either.

They think that by firing her they can make her go away and end the issue. Far from it. They'll make her a martyr to the cause of traditional marriage and if they were tired of seeing her up to now, she'll be everywhere after this. Nobody's going to buy the bogus "breach of contract" excuse.

They've already made a star out of Prejean. They're about to make her a saint.

UPDATE To my surprise Donald Trump supports Miss California and essentially slaps down the California pageant directors and gay marriage supporters who have tried to demonize Prejean.
