Political Quote of the Day

From Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor:
“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

It would be easy to see how this statement would quickly be considered racist if a white man suggested he could make better decisions based on his experience than a Latina woman.

Ms. Sotomayor received this nomination because she's a woman, Hispanic, and very liberal, not because she's an intellectual bright light and the best person for the job. The politicization of the judiciary is now complete.

UPDATE: Twitter posting from Son of Deep Throat:
SEN STAFFR: "9 Dems intend to vote NO on Sotomayor: Baucus-Tester-Bennett-Dorgan-Johnson-Byrd-Lincoln-Pryor-Nelson + 4 more Dems leaning NO"
That could certainly make things interesting.

Barack Obama as a Senator voted against both John Roberts and Sam Alito solely for ideological reasons. As far as I'm concerned that gives some cover to any Republican who chooses to vote against Sotomayor for the same reason.
