The Travel Day

We got up at 4:45 am to get ready and head to the airport. Not too many problems along the way, except for the ridiculous baggage fees the airlines charge now. I remember when you could check three bags, up to 75 pounds apiece, for nothing. Now you're limited to 50 pounds per bag and most airlines charge you for every bag.

We took American because I had mileage credits, but they weren't the "right kind" of mileage tickets to avoid the bag fee. Next time - Southwest. No bag fee.

Here are some random shots along the way today. Here's Lake Havasu as we cross the Arizona border and the Colorado River. Here's a river that was designed by the same people putting together nationalized health care.
Crossing over a contrail from another airliner (or for those conspiracy nuts, a "chem trail").
This is where they grow popcorn.
You think traffic is bad on the freeway, try O'Hare at 3pm sometime.
A thunderstorm wannabe. He and his buddies are supposed to get together and bring us some rain here in Michigan this week.
Tomorrow we're going to head to the Henry Ford Museum and whatever else we can find worth looking at down there.

Small world. Grew up in Lathrup Village. Lived in Rochester for 20 years. UofM grads are few and far between there. Transferred to Wash DC in 2001. Now in Tucson. Going back in 10 days for a family reunion in a very small town where Mother's family's family roots are - Coldwater. Have a great trip!
