GALLUP: Obama's Approval Slide Finds Whites Down to 39%...During the election a lot of white voters suffered "white guilt". They didn't want to be considered "racist" and oppose the first black candidate from a major party.
Others bought into the whole rainbows and unicorns thing and really believed that Obama was a transformational figure who would bring some sort of mystical national healing after those "terrible" Bush/Cheney years.
Those Bush/Cheney years are looking better all the time and the great transformational uniter Obama has proven to be the most divisive president in history. He's also incompetent, and that's a combination that sure to fail.
The 39% figure tells me he still pretty much has the liberal whites locked up and some of the "white guilt" crowd. However, those who thought him to be a national healer have abandoned ship.
