Liberal anger toward Sen. Joe Lieberman boiled over to the Senate floor this afternoon when Sen. Al Franken denied the Connecticut independent a routine request to extend his remarks.Frankly, comity in the Senate (that's "comity" not "comedy") is part of the problem with that body. Guys like McCain are so busy trying to get along with the Democrats - a courtesy that's often not returned - that they forget that we're in an ideological war here and cooperating with the enemy is not the answer.
Sen. Lieberman was speaking out in favor of an amendment he is offering along with Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Sheldon Whitehouse to strengthen the proposed Medicare advisory commission as a means of reducing health care costs.
After Lieberman spoke for 10 minutes, Franken, who was presiding over the Senate, informed him that his time had expired. Lieberman asked that he be given "an additional moment" to finish up -- a request that requires the consent of all Senators, but something that is typically granted without objection.
But before he could continue, Sen. Franken speaking from the presiding officer's table, snapped, "In my capacity as Senator from Minnesota, I object."
A suprised Lieberman laughed. "Really?" he said incredulously. "Okay, I don't take it personally."
Sen. John McCain then took the floor and came to Lieberman's defense.
"I've been around here 20 some years, it's the first time I've seen a member denied an extra minute or two finish his remarks," McCain lamented. "I don't know what's happening here in this body, but I think it's wrong."

Senator Franken Has a Snit
How peeved is the left with Joe Lieberman? Take a look at what happened today on the Senate floor:

The actions of people like Sen. Franken only mirror what resides in their heads, and that is that they know what's best and everyone else can just sit down and shut up. To think that a boorish boob like Al Franken could ever sit in the august halls of the Senate is quite remarkable and is certainly an indication of how little reflection the majority of Minnesota's voters gave to their choice.
Franken, Reid, Murray, Shummer, etc., these are America's leaders? God help us all.
Oh, Rick, you forgot the punchline:
Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) quickly corrected McCain, saying that the same thing happened earlier in the afternoon.
He was referring to an attempt by Sen. John Cornyn of Texas (R.) to extend remarks by two minutes. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) was presiding at that moment, and objected. When Cornyn pointed out that there was no one else waiting to speak in the nearly empty chamber and demanded an explanation for Begich's objection, Begich backed down and Cornyn proceeded.
McCain, however, had missed that exchange.
"I just haven't seen it before myself, and I don't like it and I think it's -- it harms the comity of the Senate not to allow one of our members at least a minute," McCain said.

Of course, McCain missed alot of that last year as he took time off.
Franken really showed what an ass he truly is with his behavior in this. If I lived in Minnesota I think I would be embarassed to no end to think I had a senator like this to represent my state. Apparantly the cold weather up in Minnesota has frozen the brain cells of a number of their population.
oh, you're on the wrong script.
ACORN Stole the election for Franken.
Can't the Right get things right.
