The Sun Returns to So Cal

After a week of heavy rain and clouds today opened with spectacular sunshine and clear skies. Like we did last Sunday morning the wife and I headed to San Clemente Beach to check out the post-storm conditions.

A big chunk of North Beach isn't there anymore. A Bobcat was working to build the berm up a bit and smooth out the drop-off created by the storm.
Last week the surf was breaking in very close to shore, making it tough on the surfers. Today big swells were coming in and breaking well away from the beach. Here are a couple of surfer shots.

"The sea was angry that day, my friends..."
This is why every train buff should ride the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego. Here a northbound Amtrak heads past San Clemente Beach pushed by one of the Genesis locomotives which you don't normally see on this route.
And a southbound, pulled by one of the usual Surfliner locomotives, passes below the pedestrian bridge along the beach trail.
